Tawau aims for record with 8,000 flowering trees

TAWAU:
One hundred and twenty Flame of the Forest seedlings were contributed
to the Taman Hot Spring Jaya housing committee and were planted at the
housing area’s open space.
Local businessman Larry Koh Su Kian(Rahim Abdullah) who wanted to create a world record for Tawau with his
proposal to array 8,000 Flame of the Forest (Delomix Regia) trees along
the highway from Mile 4 Apas Road up to the Tawau Airport, said he made
the contribution after the housing committee approached him to have
their housing area planted with the trees.
During the handing
over of the plant seedlings and planting on Saturday, he said he would
work out with the housing committee to help look after the trees.
Meanwhile,
on his project that would span 60 km to the Tawau Airport, he said they
were waiting for the Public Works Department to give the greenlight but
no doubt the project would get started.
Larry is sponsoring the
initial planting cost and maintenance fee of the plants for up to five
years and thereafter to hand over to Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) for
management.
“Flame of the Forest has been made the iconic flower
of the cities of Tainan in Taiwan and Xiamen in China. Currently, the
East Lake Park of Shenzhen, with 700 Flame of the Forest trees, keep
the record for the greatest number of the plants in one single location.
“Once
the project is put in place in five years, when the 8,000 trees come to
full blossom, Tawau will be a new world record holder,” he said, adding
the spectacular scene will attract tourists from around the world.

RULES AND CONDITION FOR PARTICIPANTS / 参赛细则
1. The organizer – Green Tawau Action Committee &Tawau Photographer Society welcome the general public
from Tawau to participate this photo contest. There shall be No entrance fee.
主办单位欢迎斗湖区公众人士参加此项摄影比赛，免参赛费。
2. Scope of the contest: Participants are required to submit photo entries covering the natural beauty of Flame
of The Forest surrounding Tawau. Microphotography will not accept by organizer.
呈上作品必须拍摄斗湖区内凤凰木景观。主办单位不接受凤凰木特写作品。
3. Film & Digital format allowed. However, participants are only allowed to enhance the entry by improving color
saturation, contrast, brightness and cropping.
可使用菲林或数码相机拍摄，数码作品只可修改颜色饱和度，光暗度及适当之裁剪。
4. All entries submitted must be the original work of the participants.
所有作品必须是作品之原作。
5. A maximum of 10 8R (8X10 / 8X12) color photo can be submitted by participant. All entries must be mounted
on black photo mounting board. The participant’s name, photo caption, place of the photo taken, address and
telephone contact must be written at the back of the mounting card. This information must be identical to
information written on entry form.
参赛者可呈上最多不超过10张8R (8X10 / 8X12)彩色作品，所有参赛作品必须以黑色卡装裱，且必须在卡后写上
作品编号，姓名，题名，拍摄地点，地址及联络电话，资料必须与参赛表格相同。
6. All entries submitted for this contest will note be retuned and it will remain as a property of the organizer.
所有参赛作品将交给主办单位保管而不受退回。
7. All copyright of the entries submitted for this contest shall belong to the organizer. The organizer shall have
the rights to use the photo for exhibition, press publicity, advertisement, and promotional activities.
作品原作专利权属于主办单位。主办单位保有权力使用参赛作品作推广用途而不须给予任何酬劳。
8. All entries must be submitted to the following address no later than 29th May 2012: Ocean Studio or Focus
Studio.

9. The decision of the judges is Final and no complaint shall be entertained.

许思强发起栽种八千株凤凰木\斗湖将成凤凰花城\五年后盛开时或成世界级景点
【斗湖八日讯】本坡殷商许思强准备为斗湖缔造一项世界记录，发起栽种约八千株的凤凰木。种植地点是从飞机场路口至亚巴士路四里交通圈的道路两旁及中间的安全岛上，全长愈六十公里。许思强将慷慨的赞助种植与及保养首五年的全部费用，五年后才移交予斗湖市议会继续管理。
许思强向媒体披露，他已经就有关计划于上个月向斗湖市议会主席拿督依士迈汇报他的计划和意愿，在获得主席认同之后于日前正式向斗湖市议会提呈工作计划书，目前正在等待市议会的批准,许思强披露一部分的树苗也准备好了，只要取得批文后就可以马上开始栽种。
许思强介绍，凤凰木又称为"森林火焰"（Flame of the Forest）学名是Delonix Regia，是台湾台南市及中国厦门市的市花，根据目前资料显示，全球在同一个地点有栽种最多凤凰木的是深圳市东湖公园里有700多株，其每年春末夏初凤凰花盛开的时候，大片红艳艳的花海就吸引了众多国内外民众前往观赏。
许思强表示一旦完成栽种，估计五年后，当八千株凤凰花一起盛开时，斗湖将是全世界独一无二，拥有最多凤凰花的城市。他也预见届时会吸引各国的游客前来斗湖观赏，就如人们前往东京观赏樱花及到荷兰看郁金香的情景一般。而最新的新闻报导是在今年四月二日有超过十五万人涌进中国的武汉大学观赏樱花，可见当花儿盛开的时候，它的魅力眞的无法挡。据查悉武汉大学内只栽种了一千多株的樱花罢了。
毕业于加拿大Nova Scotia大学，拥有环境规划（Bachelor of Environmental Design）及绘测师（Bachelor of Architecture）双学位的许思强表示，这些年来在设计方面，追求完美的他一直坚持的两条守则是其作品必须"给予人好的感觉"与及"惠民实用"。他深信栽种凤凰木除了可以加速绿化斗湖之外也肯定会让每一位斗湖人及访客有"好的感觉"。
许思强说他建议栽种凤凰木并不是一个突发奇想的念头而是早在十二年前当他参与斗湖机场建设时就大力推荐栽种凤凰木。
许思强进一步说:他是本着"取之于社会回归于社会"的宗旨，栽种凤凰木只是一个开始，未来他会尽力发挥自己的专长以为斗湖贡献更多。许思强也希望他这次行动能起到抛砖引玉的效果，激起民众对绿化斗湖的共鸣，他语重心长的说"斗湖是我们的家，环保和发展还得靠大家"。
